Northwestern Polytechnical University (西北工业大学, Xīběi Gōngyè Dàxué, or NPU) is a Project 985 and Project 211 university and China's only institution that excels simultaneously in aeronautics, astronautics, and marine engineering — a combination known as the 'Three Aviations' (三航). Founded in 1938, NPU was formed by the merger of several institutions during China's wartime relocation.
